I think the major hurdle is that unless you are familiar with the original book, it is going to seem very strange and might rub people the wrong way. If people ask me if I recommend it, I first ask "Have you read it?" When their answer is usually no, I just say... it's great, but you probably won't get it. Hahaha. They always hate that answer.
